Group Ride to the Coffee Barn at Liscome Park

Saturday 6th April 9:30

We met at the Propellor Monument.

BuzzCycles held its first group ride since the pandemic. Five of set off he Propellor Monument to grab a coffee at Liscombe Park. With everyone refreshed and the ride going so well we decided to extend the route to pass through Soulbury, Hollingdon, Stewkley, Cublington, Wingrave and home via the Mentmore Road Bridleway (which passes under the bypass). It was occasionally quite breezy, but our route avoided the worst of it with plenty of warmth and sunshine.

While riding we mingled with a classic car rally, which as well as some visual nostalgia reminded us that cars use to be only a little faster than cyclists, with drivers exposed to the elements.  It felt like we more equal on the road, the classic car drivers showing us a great deal of courtesy.  Cycling in a bygone age must have been fun.

The ride was planned for 10 miles but turned into a pleasurable 18 miles
