Active Travel News in Leighton Buzzard and Linslade + Dr Bike!

Hello cycling fans, we’ve got several important news items for you today, so let’s get stuck in.

Leighton Buzzard’s LCWIP Consultation

Central Bedfordshire Council has released their new LCWIP (Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan) for the town. They’ve released a PDF document detailing their plans for the area, and want your feedback. You can find the PDF document here, and the questionnaire for your feedback can be found here. Please do give it a look and give them your thoughts. This is a really important step in improving Leighton-Linslade’s walking and cycling network, and your voice really does count when deciding what routes will be implemented. Remember to consider routes that you currently undertake, along with any future routes you might start riding, such as schools, new shops, and so on.

New planning applications – New Leisure Centre and Vinci Technology Centre

Our Treasurer Chris Stevenson helpfully looked in to a couple of recently submitted planning applications to Central Bedfordshire Council, and now is your opportunity to leave comments. Thanks Chris for the useful summaries, which I’m paraphrasing to write this!

The first is the much talked about new leisure centre. We’re a bit frustrated by what’s been suggested for this. There’s seemingly no bus service between the centre and Linslade, likely convcincing visitors living in Linslade should Tiddenfoot close to drive to the new Leisure Centre. There will be a bus route from the railway station, however we’re not sure that’s far enough in to Linslade to be useful for its residents. There’s mention of “cycle hoops”, but no mention of whether they’re covered, or if any of the stands will cater for disability adapted cycles or cargo bikes. Of course, you can make a judgement for yourself however, details for this application can be found here.

The next planning permission we’d like you to look at is the Vinci Technology Centre. This appears to be much better than the leisure centre. There will be solar panels on all roofs, ground source heat pumps, EV charging points and cycle parking, along with biodiversity provision and widening of the path on Stanbridge Road to 3m for walking and cycling. Excellent! To see the supporting documents on this application and submit your comments, go here.

Dr Bike returns for November

Small confession to make – have I ever posted about our Dr Bike activities on this blog? I don’t think so, oops! I’m pretty terrible with procrastination, the fact that I left my University dissertation until the last month or so is testament to that! Hopefully you’ve all noticed the social media publicity I’ve been giving the events we’ve been running, our most recent one was in October in conjunction with Totally Locally’s repair cafe. Here’s a photo.

If you would like to book a slot at our next Dr Bike event to get your bike a free twenty minute bicycle health check, please visit our booking page here. It will be on the 25th of November between 10AM and 3PM, on the town centre market, probably in the same position as the above photo.
