BuzzCycles Cycling Strategy
We first produced a cycling strategy in 2007, and it has continually evolved until the latest version in 2021 which was unanimously endorsed by
Leighton Linslade Town Council
Our campaigning work can now be seen in the
“Leighton Linslade Local Cycling & Walking Infrastructure Plan”
Produced by Central Bedfordshire Council
BuzzCycles Cycle Strategy
The BuzzCycles strategy promotes cycling as the primary mode of transport in the town.
Key points include:
- Benefits of Cycling: Highlights environmental, economic, and health benefits, such as reducing congestion, improving air quality, and supporting local businesses.
- Vision and Rationale: Envisions at least half of all journeys being walked or cycled by 2030. Emphasizes the need to reduce car dependency and create safer, more liveable streets.
- Government Policies: Aligns with new UK government policies promoting active travel and sets out design principles for cycle infrastructure.
- Local Policies: Supports Central Bedfordshire Council’s sustainability plan, aiming to increase cycle commuting and reduce CO2 emissions.
- Inclusive Cycling: Focuses on making cycling accessible to all, including marginalized groups.
- Implementation: Details actions and interventions, such as data collection, infrastructure improvements, and training programs, to achieve the strategy’s objectives.
- Maps and Appendices: Includes detailed maps of proposed cycle routes and appendices with guidelines and additional information.
Overall, the strategy aims to transform Leighton Buzzard and Linslade into a cycling-friendly community, improving health, reducing emissions, and enhancing the quality of life for residents.
“Cycling isn’t just a mode of transport; it’s a way to reclaim our streets, improve our health, and breathe life back into our communities“.
