Leighton Linslade Town Council endorses Buzzcycles Cycle Strategy

At a meeting of the full Council on the 25th April Leighton Linslade Town Council unanimously endorsed the latest version of the Leighton Linslade Cycle Strategy produced by Buzzcycles.

Leighton Buzzard and Linslade and compact towns with many places being within 15 minutes walking or cycling time.  The purpose of the strategy is to provide a masterplan for a network, identify routes for further detailed design and to specify the supporting measures.

The strategy was first produced in 2007 and much has changed since then. In particular the Government has published  a policy document, Gear Change, and a specifications document for cycle routes. These are radical documents that have completely changed the approach to provision of cycle infrastructure.

Since 2007 concerns about air quality and climate change have only increased. More recently high fuel prices and the growth of working from home have further increased the reasons for changing how we move around Leighton Linslade.

Tom Littlehales, Secretary of Buzzcycles, said ”How we move around our town in future involves choices. What sort of town do we want? A town clogged with polluting cars or one where everyone can move around independently with ease and at low cost to themselves and the environment”.
